Sooner or later, the adhesive on the stirrups gets so bad that the stirrups come off, so you have to reglue them periodically. The adhesive on the instep cover when delivered usually lasts one season for those of you who are outside a lot.

When the adhesive has deteriorated, either due to moisture or dirt, they must be re-glued. Since the adhesive usually does not disappear but only becomes old and bad, it is recommended that the old ones be removed.

There are a variety of ways to do this. Some prefer to spray wax remover on the adhesive and scrape away. This takes time.

It is possible to heat off the adhesive. Place a piece of fabric over the adhesive (worn t-shirt) and heat with an iron. Use an iron that is only used for hemming and risers or keep a piece of baking paper between the iron and the fabric. The adhesive will then penetrate the fabric and detach from the calf skin when you pull the fabric away. Then you spread an even layer of shin adhesive. Shin adhesives smell a bit so you should have good ventilation. It helps to heat the tube to make the glue flow more easily. Leave the stirrups in a dust-free room overnight before gluing them together. In order for the adhesive to last as long as possible, there is a lot to think about. Make sure to keep them dry, dry them as soon as possible. Avoid "scratching" the adhesive and remove the snow from the underside of the skis with your gloves before putting the skins on the skis. If you take off the trail skins to ride a little downhill, fold them up and put them inside the jacket or in the CPA 08 giant chest pockets, so you have an eye on the skins and it's easy to put them on after you ride. After use, fold them with the adhesive sides facing each other to prevent dust and dirt from sticking to the adhesive, and dry them when you get the chance. A better option is to save the plastic strips that come with the stirrup skins when you buy them and stick the stirrup skins on them. Stig skins that have begun to loosen are taped where they came off. It is very important that you tape immediately. Once a centimeter has loosened at the back, it doesn't take long before it is loose in the snow. It can be a good idea to have an extra pair of trail skins with you on slightly longer trips, in any case if you are pulling a sled or have some steep slopes. A tip is to sew buckles on the calf skins in front and behind the bindings. Especially if you pull sleds and scissors a bit and go in a club with the skis. Then these buckles can help somewhat to keep them on the skis.

To reduce the moisture that penetrates the shins, it can be good to apply wax on the hairy side. This also improves glide. There is especially shin wax, but Greenland wax available at some outdoor stores works well; one pack lasts forever. Apply the wax by running it over the hair at room temperature.
